From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor (played by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might look out of place, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—used the enemy for his personal gain, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The antagonist then settled his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Character Drivers
Secondly, each member has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The strong character and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This results in them no alternative but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can look forward to discovering which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
