The much-anticipated second season of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform soon, and audience theories has been intense.
Season 1 presents a diverse group of characters residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other accompanied by songs about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Will we find out more about the binding agreement affecting Alastor the Radio Demon? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator stated recently. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have already been green-lit by Prime Video and A24, which finance the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I feel like people are going to be highly satisfied," she adds. "There are several debut moments. I think we get some really amazing reveals, some fascinating backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the guesses and hopes about the upcoming season — especially in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've come across a couple people make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed a few items, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that makes me think we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I realized, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on Prime Video on Oct. 29.
